Our Big Cities are slowly, but enevitably, clogging up ability to move from one place to another with any efficiency.

Modes of transporting oneself vary, but the best of present systems are failing the time/cost infrastructure.

Can we, by DNA manipulation, enable and equipped ourselves to free us of the need to rely on others to enable ourselves to move around with a degree of efficiency not available in our present circumstances?

I thought the way to go would be to deliberately change or enhance our body configuration so that we could move easily and quickly over medium distances, say 4/9 miles? Independantly?

Longer and stronger Legs. Respiration improvment to cope with increased exertion?

Invironmentally designed running paths fully equipped with all the required stop/stations for refreshment and re-invigouration and re-hydration. westwind.

Circumstances have a really big influence on how leg musculature and strength develop. I remember people moving here from Sydney eventually confessing that they found people in Adelaide to have ugly, thick ankles. What's the most obvious difference between Sydney and Adelaide? Adelaide may be less humid but it's at the same latitude so it's not about people being unable to walk around because it's too cold or anything.

The big difference is that Sydney is always and everywhere built on hills. Adelaide? The square mile of the city itself is approximately as flat as a pancake. And most of the established suburbs are just as flat. It doesn't matter how much you walk in Adelaide, your leg muscles are not going to be as developed as the same amount of walking in Sydney.

Maybe there is something else out there. No, not Skateboards-- although perhaps they point the way. Toboggans? Official Pushers at Break Points? Cheaper to have tube like structures and a minimum friction Vacumm Assist Suction Lower Air Compression Boosters .

Be Vacumned along on Roller Skates? ( inside a tube i mean). westwind.

Are the direction and name conventions reversed down under? In meterology a west wind blows from the west and towards the east.

Is that not the point that westwind is making? That the wind from the west will blow you homeward as it travels to the east?

I don't believe that direction and name conventions are reversed in the southern hemisphere, otherwise there would be a plethora of aussie weatherman jokes, I'm thinking...

Hello scheherazade. Yes indeed. Now, let us really solve this movement problem. Firast(sic)( I like that ), First of all, do we really need to move at all?

Why do we move? Outside of our cave I mean?

Right. To get food. The means of substination.

    Anything else? westwind.

Well MacGyver1968, this is stretching things too far. But I like the efficiency. This is what comes of being a Protestant.

The sheer waste of resources a) Building the car Plants.

    b) Building the cars.

    c) Building the Roads.

    d) Infrastructure and Lifestyle Demanding movement.

Just an example of the need to re-think our Societies Priororities.

It's obvious we cannot all walk everywhere we need to go. But this style of existance is no longer sustainable.

Lets carefully look at why we need to move around at all.

Remember the ''Óld man in his rocking chair on the front porch """? Did he have to move much to survive?

Or perhaps those who cgoose to educate their children at home, choose to grow their own Food supplies. Buy goods from Catalouges?

What do they use for money I hear you say. The money is there. Nobody moves around. No need for transport Infrastructure.

All the cost savings, including the savings that we currently spend repaairing broken bodies in hospitals of Movement Accidents.

This would give everybody some cash means of exchange.

And remember, holidays are something promoted by the present Society Mores. If Mankind has been around, say, using a 24 hour clock measurement, holidaying has only cropped up in the last 2 minutes.

Just revert back pre Cities and Towns to the Hamlets and Villages type of thinking. westwind.
