Has no-one seriously ever thought of this!?

    Ok, I'll bite.

Assuming the time travel isn't an instantaneous leap in either direction. Did you mean using a time machine A to time travel, and using another time machine B during the use of A, but before the leap from the use of A is completed?

To use both at the same time, and with a slow progressive relativistic change lets say forwards in time

Wouldn't that be something like installing a water tap that is affixed onto another water tap? If the purpose is to simply get a glass of water, the use of either one should get the job done (well, you might get that glass filled up much faster I suppose).

But I don't think it works the same way for time traveling with a time machine. Let's assume the leap takes 10 seconds to complete.

    Initiate time machine A
    Second 01:
    Second 02:
Second 03: Initiate time machine B
    Second 04: Second 01
    Second 05: Second 02
    Second 06: Second 03
    Second 07: Second 04
    Second 08: Second 05
    Second 09: Second 06
    Second 10: Second 07
    Second 11: Second 08
    Second 12: Second 09
    Second 13: Second 10

Thanks to you, my head is now hurting because you got thoughts stuck in a loop. My mouth has just spurted a loud echoic ding and I am hallucinating error boxes everywhere.
