Science is under attack. One of its assailants, Paul Broun, makes decisions on behalf of the world's largest state-sponsor of science, the U.S. government, by serving on the House of Representatives Science Committee. He denies not just the empirical findings of science, but rejects the scientific method itself, yet has considerable influence on American science funding and policies.

This online petition for his removal from that committee started less than 24 hours ago and already has over 55,000 signatures.

Please sign the petition and then tweet it, Facebook it, and otherwise spread the message. Keep bumping this thread so more science enthusiasts get a chance to see it.

I totally agree with Bill Nye. I just saw this, so I haven't had enough time to look it all over, but I am interested to hear what other people on this forum have to say.

People on a science forum tend to like science, and we don't like it when stuff like this happens.

If I were American, I'd sign it too. What a disgrace! And you should try and get rid of Todd Aikin as well.

There are times when we in the rest of the world admire American society - and then we get these little reminders that being the biggest doesn't always get you the best.

A lot of faces palmed and desks headed when this one hit the intertubes.
