It was mostly random. The "Jeremy" part is due to the fact I knew someone in preschool with that name and it popped into my head when deciding on which username to use. The "hfht" bit is there because, well, frankly nobody uses it. I've pretty much picked the only username on the internet that isn't already continually used. Or so I think.

I found Matron had written it on my wrist band..

As for Jeremy I think the middle three fingers of his (left hand) just happened to be on those keys as he experienced 'a moment'

If he considers that an insult I give him 1 token to reply!

It's a play on my nickname, P-man, which I use in other forums, but i had registered on this forum, forgotten about it, and re-registered to find that the name had been taken.

The P-manator is also very impressive. Or so I like to think.

Hmm... Bob is a symbol of understanding. Obviously it is also one of (if not The) most common name everywhere. So I use DaBOB. Sadly that is starting to catch on too. If that makes no sense at all it's ok.

Always remember, Bob is watching you.

I doubt this thread was aimed at me.
But "william" is what's on my birth certificate.
No creative influence in choosing that username....

The Electric Ant is a short story written by the science fiction author Philip K. Dick. In this story the protagonist accidently discovers that he is an artificial construct, not a human. Inside himself he finds a machine reading a roll of micro-punched tape that is slowly being fed into it (like a player-piano). He finds out that the reality which he experiences is all generated by holes in this tape and he experiments upon himself by filling in holes and making new ones.

I'm a biochemist and I like this short story as a metaphor for what I do in my day-to-day life.

If you convert each of the numbers in my nickname into the words of the element in the periodic table that this number is it's atomic number, you get my real name

I have created my webname, for Apple insider. It's the contraction of POWERmac and DOC (that's what I am).
Later I wanted to change it to Doc, but my fellow AIer liked more the original name : powerdoc.
Later I registered under this name, and all the internet forums I use to go.

I was wondering about that. Why are people so worried about people tracking their names? First of all what would be the point? And second, isn't it just as easy to look in a phone book? If someone stocks people online they are not only mest up in a criminal sort of way but they are just plain stupid as far as I can tell.

You need o phone number for a phone book. Online, the name makes it 9000x easier. And murders/rapes have happened thanks to name giving. Google it

Omerta was a type of code of silence practiced by the mafia. Although I'm not really into the mafia that much honour systems intrigue me since people feel accountable for their actions or sometimes place others or believes higher than themselves. I try to be someone who can be counted on.
I've always wanted to know why. Just takes me a little longer than most, lol.
