FINALLY the Mayan 2012 doomsday theory can be put to rest!

Unless ofcourse Iran goes to war against Israel and the US decides to help them. Political clusterfucks with the russians and Syria creates havoc in the UN and the snowball goes downhill fast, growing in size and nuclear missiles launches all over the world in december. Society would go to hell - we end up back in the stoneage and a conspiracy loving doomsdaysayer stands there pointing at us screaming "I TOLD YOU? BUT DID YOU LISTEN? Noooo nooo noooo!"

    That would really suck.

Well, the Mayan stuff would be over with.

But you and I both know that some clown or other will come up with something from Nostradamus or the I Ching or Revelations or astrology or some half-wit preacher from the mountains of Peru or the Caucasus or the Scottish Isles and we'll be dancing the same old moves all over again.

I thought it was fairly obvious the Mayan 2012 thing was wrong as their world ended several hundred years early.

    I'll like it.

The political saturation will subside for another four years--regardless of who's electric US President, idiotic zombie apocalypse stories will fade. Personally I'll be able to start a new career teaching and settled into the house I'll grow old in--for my wife and I, that will make the eightenth move of everything we have since we got married. Did a "high and best" bid on a house with several offers yesterday--keeping our fingers crossed.

I have been on this Earth for 45 years, and in 23 of those years the world was predicted to end. I see no reason why this trend will not continue.

One day one of them will be correct by chanse. And he will be decleared "The great prophet" and lead the new dystopian age. Its almost as if all the doomsayers WANT to be right and have the world end. Doomsday lottery is one hell of a risky career move imo.

Do you really think the "Mayan stuff" would be over with when 2012 comes? People will just interpret it in another way and put more future dates on it, just like what happens with any doomsday prediction. They will claim it was interpreted wrong and new interpretations will arise. It will never quite end. At any given time there are several doomsday dates counting down. Always.

James Lovelock has predicted an understandable doomsday. If we can somehow bury our hatchets and use our assembled Nuclear ICBMS to nudge our Planet into a more friendly orbit around our Sun, then we will be heading in the right direction. What a day this will be. I for one will want a Grandstand view of proceedings. Can't wait. Any one out there looking for some tickets fot the Big Event? westwind.

Another end of the world 'theory' will pop up after the 2012 one. They always have.

I don't know much about the origins of the idea that 21,12,12 is an important date... I heard about apocolypse stories, but whats it all based on? what did the mayans actually say about this date? And didn't the mayans have a 360 day calender?

What's the other thing about planet x or niburu (is it one of them? are they both the same?)? is any planet or comet on a close flyby route?

    Thanks.
Won bid on the place! Old Spanish craftsmen style home, on 9 acre, with good sized river over a levee in the back yard. Around these parts, a lot of tidal marshes were converted into fields with levees and one way tidal gates while the structures were built on mounds a few feet higher than the levee. It was a working farm at one time for Scottish Highland cattle, which I'm told do well through the rainy winters--the large 80 year old pole barn is still solid--amazing.

Scary part is home inspection next week. The inside is spectacular, with engraved woodwork that goes with the style, but it needs mechanical upgrades such as new boiler for the hot water heating. Told the inspector I need Roman vote on foundation so I know whether to run from the deal, an evaluation on the almost flat roof, and a good checklist to work from to keep me busy the next few years :-)

If all goes well 2013 will be a great year

I certainly wish you and yours all the happiness in any enterprise you may undertake in your future. Wish it were me. Left it just a couple of years too late. Regrets are harder to get rid of when you know them to be true. DO NOT HAVE ANY REGRETS. Dnot look back. Make every new morn an opportunity to achieve, or attempt to achieve a small and delightful step forward. Then it is at least an honest attempt to have lived a good life. westwind.

I explained to my son that the year before his birth was supposed to be apocalyptic, as all the computers would crash on the number 2000. Governments and corporations spent a sobering lot of money preparing for this havoc. Then nothing happened and we all felt kinda foolish. But we couldn't admit how foolish we'd been, so since that time we've been unconsciously hoping for some sort of redemption. What bullcrap I teach that boy.

So successfully identifying the nature of a problem and working our butts off for years to successfully avoid it is foolish?

Make no mistake. If we hadn't done that, some planes would have fallen out of the sky, some power stations would have shut down, some train and traffic signalling errors would have caused accidents.
