We have this general idea that the creation of the universe started with the "Big Bang". How can nothing exist around the origination of the universe and outside the continual expansion of the universe? How can something exist in nothing?

Short answer. We don't know.
That is not a problem in science. It is a major problem in religion, since religious people are never prepared to admit ignorance, and will rapidly say : "God did it." But for a good scientist, not knowing something is simply a challenge to find out. It is very likely that, within a decade or three, we will be in a position to answer that question.
