What are the current best game creation software. I know about Game Maker and RPG Maker. Is there a website with an organized list of them?

I really want to create my own real time strategy game. I do not care if it is 2d or 3d. Are there any resources out there to do this.

I was thinking about hiring a software engineer to create a real time strategy game for me. What would to cost of this be? What would be the profits?

I have a good idea for a new real time strategy game. The game is set in a medieval fantasy world. The game is supposed to be like Warcraft 3 and Armies of Exigo. You fight both on a map above ground and a map below ground, as in Armies of Exigo. There are more resources such as gold and mushroom lumber down below but the neutral hostile guarding them are harder to beat. You can choose from a variety of heros to build you army around such as warriors, rouges, and hunters who each have special abilities.

There are four races in the game. The Humans, who include elves, dwarves, knights, and griphon riders, the Orcs, who include trolls, goblins, minotaurs, and ogers, the undead, and the demons. The story begins with the humans living in peace. Then the orcs are transported through a wormhole by dark elves to the human world. Then there is war between the humans and invaders. Next the undead are created by the orcs to hunt and kill the humans. Next after the undead are created the demons are summoned by the orcs by wormhole to hunt and kill the humans too.

My idea is really new and under development if you would like to contribute feel free I would love to make it better and hopefully create and sell it someday.

Posting once about the same exact thing was quite enough.

I think most games now days take dozens of people, especially for PC and consoles.

There's probably a niche left in smart phones, Andriods etc. I doubt "angry birds," for example, took movie making efforts.

If you agree to share the profits, you can often convince a company that has already made a game similar to yours to allow you to use their engine.

The Witcher, for example, which won quite a few awards, uses the game engine that was originally developed by Bioware for its Neverwinter Nights game. The company that made the Witcher is in Poland, but Bioware (which is based in Canada) was happy to be making a bit of extra money off of code they'd already produced, and agreed to lease it to them. You'd still need to know how to program well enough to adapt the engine to your needs (or have programmers on staff who knew that stuff.)

Also, the most crucial part of a good game nowadays, is surprisingly not the programming that goes into it so much, but rather the art. You need to either be really good at making quality 3D models that look good close up, and move realistically, or again: you'll need to hire graphical artists.
