Hmmm....... i dont know about you guys but i kinda prefer the old forum layout and skin. Btw do you guys knows who is the owner of this website, who makes these kind of changes and stuff? is it Skinwalker? Insanity??

Also before the forum layout changed and was updated, my post count was 1000, now it dropped back to 970, hmm i wonder what happened.

The new owners are Bunsen and Beaker. There's been some discussion on the site feedback section. I don't know about the post count.

I noticed I went from a Forum PhD to a Masters Degree, which was odd. Other then that I generally like the layout, but wish the new post and hot thread icons were a little more distinct.

I'm pretty sure when I first got here I couldn't see the actual forums without logging in. I'm not to big on that. Sometimes I like to just browse without having to worry about logging. I don't know if my status changed, but I'm pretty sure I wasn't an esteemed member before. Oh, and it looks like the spell check isn't working. Hopefully I don't become a-steamed member.

Appears to me the new owners worked hard to maintain appearances.

The title of "esteemed" by gross post-count really should go. It only adds infamy to my quackery.

Most forums, at some point, will change their template, we will all get used to it.

    Where is the edit button?
Why has my post count dropped by around 400 posts?
    Who is John Gault?

I suspect the counting algorithm changed and anything in Trash or maybe even pseudo is no longer counted. I like the new skin, and compared to some of the over the top bells and whistles nonsense I've seen elsewhere, I for one want to thank our new forum overlords for keeping it so light.

Edit button is on the bottom right. John Galt is a silly character from a silly novel read and taken as truth by silly people who don't care for their fellow human beings and have a flawed view of reality.

I believe what has happened is that any posts we made in threads which have since been deleted have not been counted in our totals, since our post counts have been recalculated with the software change.

For instance, posts where I made a sarcastic comment where someone was advertising/spamming have not been counted. Apparantly I made some 300 such posts...

I quite like V bulletin anyway, so I'm happy with the change. Not that I care too much what the forum looks like as long as it remains functional.

This may have happened for several reasons. After importing the forum, the post counts were re-calculated. If yours is lower than it may be related to the following:

    1. Spam threads that were deleted that had replies from members
    2. Contents of the "Trash Can", which were emptied
    3. Miscalculation by the old forum software

We imported the ranks as they were on the former software. It may be possible your new post count gave you another default title. In any case, the default titles do not matter since you can change your user title to anything you want now.

We gave a rank of "Esteemed Member" to members who had 1,000 posts or more. Clearly, we shouldn't have and this has been removed.

At first I was unable to log-in and was notified I was banned (no reason specified) forever. I thought this was way over the top, but everything seems to be fine now.
I liked the old forum design/layout, but appreciate the stylish qualities of the new forum.
I am not able to comment on technical website issues.

We received your email and rectified the issue. It must have been some weirdness during the migration.

Out of curiosity what happened to the trash can subforum? Admittedly it was for threads and tread chunks tossed from the other sections, but there were several active discussions happening there.

    Now I feel less appreciated.

I don't know if I'm experiencing your sense of humor or you seriousness, but I'm enjoying it either way.

Never mind, I just figured it out. That could be a dangerous feature. For now, I like. However, seeing as I'm no longer an esteemed member, I imagine my opinion does not matter so much.

Well, you could always change your user title to "Esteemed Member".

I thought it must be some minor glitch. I didn't take the "lifetime ban" too seriously!

Snazzy isn't it? I like it, and frankly I am pleased with the new admins decisions to change the forum, it was getting quite old and outdated. If only members could undergo a new furnishing of personality

What I love about the new forum is that it apparently takes days to recognize a change in password after for some reason rejecting my old password. I bet that I won't be able to log in now for a few days.

Here's the problem with questions like "what would we see if we traveled faster than the speed of light". Since the rules that govern the universe as we understand them do not allow for such a possibility, to imagine such an event forces us to abandon those rules. But that leaves us no guide by which to answer the question. We have no idea as to what rules to replace them with, and we can't give an answer. - Janus

I've noticed this too, some of our best and most knowledgeable users seem to have upped and left such as Ophiolite, DrRocket and a few others. Thescienceforum just doesn't seem to be the same anymore, I don't see any real, hard scientific discussions/debates happening anymore.

They got the hump with change, as happens with older people. We can't judge them for their choice to leave, it was theirs to make. And we will still have heated debates and discussions, as long as science exists this forum will always prosper and keep intelligent debate alive!
