i have a laptop which i purchased around 2years ago, its Dell studio 1555. I think its not in a bad condition, but i just want to know how long it will last. Because i am in the middle of thinking of changing in to a new one or keep using this one. Of course there are many factors which affect the life of a laptop, but just want to ask in general how long it will last.

    appreciate any feedback

seems you want a straight awnser.
I'd say two years, just because all the likely things that can happen, someone borrowing it, virus, hard rive problems, not fit for u anymore, kids, spill, drop ect

I worked for the international IT department for a large multi national company and with technology moving on the policy was 3 years life for a laptop and 5 years for a desktop. The difference is because you would normally get a much higher spec on a desktop in comparison to a laptop for the same money. Increasing the RAM helps to increase the life a little I use RAM Memory Upgrade: Dell, Mac, Apple, HP, Compaq. USB drives, SSD at Crucial.com as they have a utility that scans your PC and tells you what RAM you have, what it can take and how much it will cost you so you can make an informed decision if you want to purchase this. obviously disk clean ups and defrags help maintain in good working order. If a machine starts getting to slow I often transfer data to a hard drive and then use the disks that came with the PC to format the drive and reinstall the software assuming you have all the disks.

My last laptop (also a Dell) lasted for about 10 years. It was still perfectly good - way better than the one I have now - and probably would have lasted another 10 years if I hadn't dropped it and cracked the motherboard.

What a stupid question Heins, and does not deserve an answer on a science site like this
If it works, don't fix it, why would you?
If you into complex graphics, and need a faster chip ok, but you put no parameters
    on your query.
I have two laptops and an all in one Acer running windows 7, along with a 5 year old
tower running XP, where are you comming from?
    nokton.
