I am a highly anxious person already who worries about his health. I don't need to be reminded of Clavix and Bayer every 5 minutes saving people when they have heart attacks. I like to pretend at least sometimes that bad things such as this don't exist. I get anxious every time I hear the words heart attack. The concept scares me to death. I've had panic attacks before and imagine I will feel the same way if I ever have a major heart attack (and my high BP and stress level lead me t believe it may happen eventually): scared and hopeless. I am sick and tired and angry that companies feel the need to remind me of my mortality all the time. I heard a commercial today say "if you've already had a heart attack another may be lurking just around the corner". What the fuck? Of course people are going to have heart attacks but seeing the commercial itself is enough to freak people out into an arrhythmia. Is it just me or does anyone else feel the same way?

Health ads bother me to some extent. They're just trying to sell you something you probably don't need, just like 90% of what is advertised. I often get spells of arrhythmia but I've been looked at, wore a heart monitor more than once and had just about everything else short of surgery. Once took a look at some old guy's heartbeat in the next bed and I figured I wasn't doing too bad and neither was he, since he was around 90 yrs old. So I figure if there was anything advertised that's good to take for my particular heart ailment then I would be taking it right now via doctor's orders.

I regard the ads as part of the drug industry's information war that should be directed towards the medical community directly, preferably backed up by proper medical science. How many billions are spent on ads and how much does it add to your escalating medical cost?

I expect my doctors to give me courses of actions about recommended treatments to medical problems--not some 30 second ads on TV.

Of course, if you were to go down the evil route of social medicine, as practiced in the UK, no such adverts would appear in any medium you were exposed to.
