    Hi,

I am currently looking for an alternative to Microsoft word for creating research papers. I have had a look at Latex but would prefer something a little more user friendly and smaller learning curve. I have another software called Scrivener which looks interesting. Can anyone suggest any more?

    Many thanks.

Open Office which is nearly 100% compatible with word has a pretty good equation editor as well as ability to add figures, table of contents and all the other things you'd likely want to use.
