ok say your sitting outside and a stone comes over the fence and lands by you, you put it in your pocket. Now somehow you manage to go back in time to when it happens and throw the rock, seeing your past self pick it up. Is this possible?

    just wondering

Well if you're already accepting the possibility of going back in time, then why not?

Yes its possible, its called effect-cause causality.

If you chose not to throw the stone when you keep it, then there is no paradox, the universe you are now in is different from the one you picked up the stone.

Besides that same stone is in a time loop but still ages so eventually there will be no stone to throw anyway. No paradox.

Time travel isn't paradoxical anyway, its just the same as saying that folding a 2 dimensional object in the 3rd dimension, bisecting itself is impossible in the 2nd dimension, a paradox so to speak, all you do is use the dimension above to explain it.

To explain 4 dimensional paradoxes you use the 5th dimension, cause and effect alternate realities. Of course that isn't science fact yet, mere theory so judge for yourself. Judge and stay in a world of paradoxes or move forwards with knowledge.

The orignal universe where the stone was on the side of the guy who caught it and decided to create a time machine and throw it back to help himself the trouble of creating a time machine.

Very altruistic don't ya think? :-D

You need to read Robert Heinlein's "By His Bootsrap's". It explores just these sort of paradoxes and ends in a most amusing way.
