I should be on top of the world. I found that I'll be getting financial aid the next two semesters and that I'll finally be paying off my credit card. I don't have a car yet but after next semester I probably will.

However...this semester I will probably be going to school 5 days a week on an almost 2 hour commute. Then working during weekends. I will have to spend a lot of money on bus passes and some on food. Yet I want to quit my job so that I can devote my life to school for now...should I? I don't want to throw away a job I may need in the future but I know I'll need lots of time to study...

gottspieler; From what little I have to go on, I don't think you need to quit your job and you will find a way to get the study time. You might be surprised, what can be a done during that two hour commute and you might want a little cash on hand for a little self congratulations.

Well I'm probably going to take Chem I, Pre-Calc and Bacteriology. I should have plenty of time to study it's just that for math classes we always have to work problems out on online programs which takes a lot of time.

gottspieler; If quitting your job, would change any of the above, IMO that would be a mistake. Someone has offered you a great deal of financial aid and you really don't want to be running up your credit card...again.

It's been over 50 years since my schooling, but it seems to me we managed to do some rather complicated math problems, without a computer or during testing, even a calculator. I'll assume things have changed, but you may be assuming some things, that won't happen.

Your final decisions are of course your own to make, as it should be. I could go through some cases of young folks I've known that did nothing through 4-6 or more years of higher education, that ended up driving trucks, or those that went on to do great things. I replied to your questions, only because I smelled a little pride in having climbed out of a financial hole, then asking if you should dig a new one.

If you were heading into the last year or so with a major in say Medical Science (Bacteriology), I would probably suggest looking for an 'Internship' in some laboratory, opposed to working, if at all possible. I do wish you luck....

I may get to live on campus. Then I would have less money to save for a car but I wouldn't need one for awhile...so I can save money from work study and maybe take a leave of absence from my job.
