Hope this is suitable place to post this...

I'm looking for some easy to use yet "powerful" statistical software that is open-source or free, and importantly is simple to use and doesn't require a PhD in statistics to understand. I've just had a look at Statistics Lab and found it to be almost unworkable and maddeningly frustrating, so I've scratched that one of my list.
Found lots on the intertubes obviously, but I don't want to install one after the other hoping to find a good one.

Does anybody have some good recommendations?

What kind of statistical calculations are you wanting to do?
