    Facebook users...be cautious!
I am sure you are all aware of the recent story in the news about Katie Piper who was attacked by the boyfriend she met via facebook. This sick criminal raped her and then had acid thrown on her beautiful face, leaving her blind in one eye, partially blind in the other, and forced to wear a face mask for 23 hours a day...needless to say this has changed her life, her career, and her mentality forever.

Does anybody here have any experience with meeting people (in real life) who they originally met via sites like facebook etc? Any good / bad experiences to report?

Back onto the acid attack - I found this game which lets you electrocute the criminal who did it (Daniel Lynch)....I think its worth a few goes to punish that scumbag.

We are shocked and appalled to hear that the number of animals condemned to lives of suffering in EU laboratories has hit a ten year high.

Well, my one experience was a very trusting one, and it went out very well! She ended up moving here and we dated for a few months ^^

Sad thing is I found her cheating on me -_-ll

And yes, I'm a girl, I'm bisexual, deal with it >_> I'm tired of getting bull about it.

So, essentially, Facebook is still much safer than a nightclub, street corner, or even dinner and a movie.

I'd be willing to bet there are vast numbers of "Facebook success stories" where people have met or reconnected with the loves of their lives, improved their networks to obtain better jobs, enhance their lives through social interactions, etc.

Looks like a non-news story focusing on hyperbole and the sociopathic behavior of someone who would have got his "violence fix" with or without Facebook.

    People should be cautious. Period.

Whether it be Facebook, The Science Forum, a local bar, dating a co-worker or acquaintance they think they already know, etc.

People have forgotten how commonplace it was to communicate and yes arrange meetings with strangers by text only, around the turn of last century. We called it correspondence, not networking; and writing, not texting. Instead of social network sites we had people's directories and personals pages. Same deal, different terms.

Most people arrived in British Columbia after "text" invite and accommodation arranged with persons unseen. Many married. Apparently it worked okay.

You won't get any "bull" about it here, the crowd is mostly mature.

No need to be defensive here.

I've never heard of a girl "getting bull" for being bisexual or lesbian...who has given you hell for being bi?

I bet you are right - the media rarely focus on good news stories...because its the shock and horror that sells...but I think its worth everyone being as careful as possible out there...because there are some truly disturbed people ready to pounce on the vulnerable
