After hearing about Extra-Special Relativity I just felt the need to make this

what rediculous scientific words do you know?

    heres a few

Supermassive Black Hole (I mean really?)
Extra-Special Relativity nickname for Doubly-special relativity... which isn't daft at all.. :?

Unparticles -like photons, but can have mass depending on how you measure it

Barn -the size of a uranium nuclei (and we wonder why people laugh at scientists)

Schmoo - a yeast cell ready to 'have sex'

    and my current fave
Bi-George - when George is heated with rhodium, two Georges stick together

I kid you not, these are all real scientific terms

It's not how many questions you ask, but the answers you get - Booms

This is the Acadamy of Science! we don't need to 'prove' anything!

I think telescopes have got to get the prize for this, with the wonders of the 'Very Large Telescope', 'Extremely Large Telescope', and 'Overwhelmingly Large Telescope'.

I don't quite get what your problem with this term is.

    But a few odd terms:

Google (10^100): coined by a mathematician's young son.

Quark: Taken from a line in "Finnegan's Wake"

The fact that Quarks come in six "flavors" :up,down, strange, charm, top and bottom. (top and bottom were almost truth and beauty), and three "colors".

Shed : There are 10^24 sheds to barn.

Another "Almost": Herschel, upon discovering Uranus, originally dubbed it "George"(actually "Georgium Sidus") after King George III, who had given him the grant for his telescope.

The tradition of naming celestial bodies after mythological beings was broken with Uranus however in the naming of its moons which are all taken from the writings of Shakespeare and Alexander Pope.

The heated mind resents the chill touch & relentless scrutiny of logic"-W.E. Gladstone
