Are we on the edge of a cliff?
Just like dinosaurs and other species, which have been going extinct since the life as we know had begun on this planet, we humans are also subject to the similar fate. Simply because we are made from same natural materials, same mechanism(s), and we are limited to the environmental possibilities of the earth. We are vulnerable against any substantial change in the climate, a big asteroid, a disease; just name it.
Unlike dinosaurs, however, we also heavily depend on unnatural rules of the human social systems, scientific, imagination, technologic possibilities (or impossibilities). We have reached the moment of truth about what we should do about our energy sources, justice, and increasing population with their increasing demands.
Even the major achievements of the last 10 000 years of human history (starting with the agricultural revolution) and today being able to crack the codes of the life and universe, I sense that the human mind has the capability of doing anything: Things which are even forbidden by our own beliefs and traditions; things that we could not do with the possibilities of natural evolution alone. We have the ability of turning any dream into reality. I have no suspicion on this ability.
Yet, the negative products of human civilization has been playing -considerably- powerful role in the unwritten destiny of humans. I suspect that we are on the edge of a cliff, partly because of chaotic and unforgiven rules of nature; and partly because of the direction and composition of our own human universe.
Am I exaggerating the situation? Do I see, read and listen to the situation very much different than the rest of the people? If yes, what is the ultimate guarantee of the existence for our species? If not; If there are real and imminent dangers, is it not worth to protect the human beings as well as other species? If our very existence is under threat, shouldn't we reorganise our priorities according to the needs of survival? Is there a way to unleash the maxium potential of every single human mind alive as much as future generations? Are governments and authorities of the world offering any plan to eliminate the dangers, are they taking any of them seriously? Are we, ordinary human beings, sharing and supporting the excuses and muppet shows which are constantly put in front of our real challenges as species?
Yes we have always altered the odds; even the black death epidemics and wars could not finish off our existence. Is this the end of the journey? Or should I keep believing in human abilities that we will not fall off the cliff?
