    I wuz thinking...
    People who exercise in lifting weights are wasting too much energies.. People in the goverment
    can build special gyms that gather the energy of the weight lifthing and all so the energy be harnessed!

    They can also give free access to the gyms so more peoplez will train and output energy!!

    I'm sure the energy output will pay for the generator installments and all.. will it?

    What do you thinks??

    Someone more versed on energy transfers will probably give a better answer here - and I'm probably going to get attacked for posting unnecessarily, but I think there are two problems with your idea.

    One is that (at least in the UK) most Gyms are privately owned, and to make all gyms free would be to effectively buy all of them from these private companies and then make the taxpayer pay for the upkeep, staff and whotnot of them.

    The other problem is that, AFAIK, it takes a lot of this kind of movement to generate any sizable amount of energy. I think I saw a TV programme once where they had twelve cyclists pedaling for about ten minutes and the energy produced wouldn't boil a kettle.

    Again, someone more versed on these things will give a better answer - these are just my thoughts.

    Well.. they don't have to give free gym access then.. they can just attack the generators
    for the machines in the existing gyms perhaps even offer money to the gyms for
    the "inconviniance".. this all be useful one if the energy output will be enough
    to cover the installetion and generator prices that is..

    That's the thing you see. Unless the gym is constantly packed with people working out at their hardest I don't think the energy output would cover the cost of installing a generator to each machine, which is what I think you'd need to do.

    Look at it this way;

    The energy a person could generate by working out on an exercise machine wouldn't even heat the water needed for the shower they would need to take afterward. So, while such a system might slightly defray the energy usage of the gym, it would not likely be enough to make the initial investment and maintenance of the equipment worthwhile.
