Observations of a 16 year old bad speller:
Over the weekend I have made numerous observations about life and life around me. My social life, my study life (or lack of), and my family life. Just random things triggered by every day occurrences.

Firstly I have realised im a science geek, (you know I never guessed it before now, even being a member here!) I love chemistry and biology, and to a lesser extent.... physics. So on Saturday evening I was enjoying a beef stir-fry before going to work, in a restaurant. My mom comes home, and we have no dinner for her. I see her looking ... longing for some of my (or indeed my sisters) food. So I offer her some, but she refuses on the basis I have to go to work.
No. no you have to go to work, eat your meat
the basis I needed my meat to give me a sustainable start for the next 6 hours ahead of me. My sis cracked a joke. Said:
yes, the metabolic speed at which the meat will be of any value to him will be enormous.
I burst out laughing because I got the joke! The proteins in the meat won’t be broken down in those hours, it wouldn’t make a real difference in the sense my mother hoped! I and my sister are geeks.

so now I have my second puzzling question that I am asking you ... the science forum members, how have helped me so in the past... a question I don’t think you can answer. The benzene ring, of 6 carbon atoms I think, is a cancer causing chemical. But why is it that an other organic chemical, benzaldehyde, with an extra H-C = O on it is not? (Aim In life to find out – watch this space!)

I was out on Friday, saw a film, almost got asked out by this girl (bout a year and a half younger than myself!) but she got cold feet. Disappointing night.

And then the next day, (being the saterday of working that i have already said! not going in chronigal order) I decided to study, and I did... I studied more than I have in a while now, and it felt good. I felt proud. And so I studied a few topics. One of which was food-the chemicals of life. Why did I study, normally im a lazy son of a bitch, but I studied from about 2-5?? With a few 15 min breaks. Why? I did the same today, and I can’t for the life think of why? Probably because of an inspiring speech by my English teacher. I have my finals this year, and I should be studying like there’s no tomorrow (even though that makes no sense... cause if there was no tomorrow, no finals, no study) hmmm.... think about it.

I also found out a couple of months ago, that we had a second blood like system for transport of bodily fluids, lymphatic its called... and I also studied that today, along with organic chemistry the alkane/ene/yne series. And I wondered why the writer stuck in heats of reaction and stuff in that chapter, when a more logical approach would be the chlorokanes and the alcohols. Seen as they follow on, (and even the plainer organic compounds!) which I did. So I skipped them. Logical? Who knows? And by the way, I went to the organic chapter to crack the hydrocarbon cracking of long chain carbon compounds, and ended up skipping it. Who knew!

And did you know god doesn’t play dice, news to me.

on the working topic too... new wash up man form Sligo, who has the same serious jokes characteristic that I have seen on another Sligo/mayo man, the west of Ireland serious gene I think I’ll call it.....
Another question: is there an online search engine where I can type in a chemical formula like c6h12o6 and it will tell me what it is, and other such functions? That would be handy, because I trying to find out what ketone structure glucose is broken down into in the body, and what other by-products (if any) are formed

So over all this weekend was good one, by all accounts. I found out (on re-examination) that I’m in-fact not a science geek, because I studied the food chapter that day (ah ha I see) and I really should change the title. Because I am about to spell check this ... but then again, I don’t trust the spell checker!

Bet you stopped reading half way through, because it was going nowhere. Well that’s not true, because it made things clear for me, and well I achieved my goal, of sharing my weekend.

what was your gaol of the weekend just gone?

Hehe. Remarkable, isn't it. I have done a bit of background on neuro-transmitters myself, and after looking at the chemical formulas of those, few things are surprising. The body just reacts differently to different structures. It has advantages and disadvantages. It's an evolutionary given.

    Disappointing night.
You should have asked her! Or were your feet perhaps also a bit cold? :P

ven though that makes no sense... cause if there was no tomorrow, no finals, no study
I think it means that you shouldn't think about the time, just think that time will go on and on, and that you have to keep on studying.

And did you know god doesn’t play dice, news to me.
According to Einstein. Caesar wouldn't agree, or he would. Who knows?

Bet you stopped reading half way through, because it was going nowhere.
I read it completely. Chaos is refreshing . And, not everything needs to serve a goal. Don't feel the need to rationalise everything. Sometimes just letting go is nice as well .

what was your gaol of the weekend just gone?
It is not exactly gone yet. I had a dinner with some classmates from the college I did prior to University (what I am doing now), which was nice, because they are nice people, and I had not seen them for a while. For too long really. And, this weekend is an introduction into a monday that will have me starting training for a relatively small judo competition in december, but I intend to give it my best, so I'm going to work out again.

It has been a slow, gentle weekend, which isn't too bad, I'd think.

    Mr U

I read it all the way through: that sort of ramble is a good way of getting to know someone better. Let's one put a 'face' to the posts.

A RANT THAT ENDED, RATEHR SUDDENLY, there were more observations that were more to do with science, but i forgot them, before writting, see.

walaby , wasn't actually that big! considering the only really eventful differance was the studying part!

ophiolite, good point, next rant i go on, will forwarn

vslayer., scirus.com good, exactly what i wanted. i actually been there before but forgot about it!!! (kinda like my other observations which i swear were there once!)

HomoUniversalis, quite right, i plan to look into that further, when ever i get some free-free time, where i have nothing more urgent to do,
ah, my feet weren't cold, i was wearing layers that night, very chilly! (coldest winter here for quite a while!) i just wasn't, too sure what she thought, and the age, (gap of two years ish,) despite its small size, would of had a major impact on me, i been called a perv before, same gap. kids can be so mean (i just proved your point.. i don't care what the other kids think!!! damm.)
time is revelant .. or isn't it? hmm.. now that you metion it, i belive that was invloved in my observation. evolution too. (reading darwins "on natural selection") see my mind one thing leads to another!
talking about age gaps,Einstein and Caesar! the two got it so wrong, god plays dice, just dosen't involve money!

gald to hear you read it, and got you thinking, abotu me having goals, which was a goal of mine,
It has been a slow, gentle weekend, which isn't too bad, I'd think.
you sumed it up pretty well!

My goal? To repaint the interior of the empty apartment in the rental property and work on Sunday, in order to get Wednesday off. Achieved.

But it was more than that; the spouse and I never spend much time together these days, because of our work schedules, so Saturday was really just a day to hang out together, and talk.

We just used white pigmented primer; people claim to hate solid white walls, but they rent apartments with white wall faster. Besides, we let tennants paint.

I needed tomorrow off so that I could attend the spouse's business holiday dinner; in general, I dissapprove of company business parties, but it's a very small business, so it will be fun to take out the employees.

And I really liked working on Sunday; I got two day's worth of work done because there was no-one but production in the plant. I'd like to change my schedule to Sunday through Thursday.

Thanksgiving is the day after tomorrow; to cut down on the driving we are spending tomorrow night in a hotel. I love staying in hotels. I lied to the nice reservation clerk so that we could bring the dog. Wednesday we are supposed to dine and lose money at poker with my sibling the card-sharp.

But I know how to play real poker, five card stud.

Do you really think it wise to point that out to a teen-ager? Do you really think that the first thing that pops into their minds is, 'I bet I am really going to regret not studying some day?'

    I don't; I remember being a teen-ager.

ohh well it's not that much extra time.

and i still need things to do.

maybe i should use my scientific mind for blowing stuff up as my friends have so often suggested.
