In HU's absence I find it might be wise to elect a new Administrator of the site. This would be someone responsible for banning members, appointing moderators, even creating new forums. This would be the all mighty of the forum.

This person needs to have at least 1000 posts. You can't nominate yourself and you need to have at least 50 posts to be counted. We will shoot for the first 25 nominations. This may take a while.

Vote on this person with caution as they could impact the entire forum in drastic ways. I'll of course pull the plug if they go over the deep end. That's not to say I'll question bans, sub forum changes or such. The site is backed up each night and I'll keep at least one months incremental backups in the event of problems.

Pleased to meet you. Hope you guess my name

Since Admin need not engage individual threads and trolls, I nominate

    Ophiolite.

I would also nominate Ophiolite, though I understand he may not want the job.

    If not, I nominate Kalster.

Huge responsibility that. I'm not sure who to vote in because I think it would require someone with a lot of brains and guts. I'll wait a while before I vote.

An honor just to be nominated.

I'll third Harold and would also like to put Sunshinewarrior's name in the mix.

    And Ophiolite, of course.

Hmm. I thought of Harold myself at work today. I'll say either Harold, Pong or sunshine warrior. I'll leave it a bit who to decide on though. It may seem to be unanimous with Harold though but I'll still wait.

I think marnix has enough on with Philosophorum.

Not sure why he's not been around. His life may have just become too busy. I myself have had to struggle many times to find time to check up on the forum. If HU suddenly comes back I suppose this will all be a mute point. Unless of course we have already nominated someone. We've seen what happens when you take things away from people.

that makes harold the clear front runner with 6 - still a long way to go though
i wonder if enought regulars peruse the 'General Discussions' part of the forum, or do some just stick to their own bit ?

maybe a need to flag up the existence of this thread in other parts ?

You mean like temporary announcement threads in the subforums? Why not.

still an awful long way from a tally of 25 + the nominations seem to have dried up

harold's top with 9 votes, followed by kalster and sunshine warrior with 2 each

I just wanted to make a quick post and apologize about being somewhat scarce lately myself... Grad school has been pretty intense but I've tried to make a point to visit a few times a week and clean up any spam.

I also never hesitate to respond as quick as I'm able to PMs from members who have concerns. PM notifications get emailed to me and I get it on my blackberry, so I'm just a few mouse clicks away should anyone run into a spammer that needs to be dealt with (moderators or members who notice).

I just get wrapped up in my other routines and haven't really had the time to interact in posts and discussions, but perhaps the relatively silent but available super mod is an advantage for the members and moderators.

Ok....i would definitely, without a doubt, nominate KALSTER

He has the qualities and effectiveness that would make him an excellent diplomatic democratic responsible and caring leader.

I fell out with some people on this forum because they dealt with me rudely so they got the same back and so on....

Kalster has never ever been rude to me, on the contrary, he has been the perfect gentleman, always been fair, and he has put me in my place, kicked my butt firmly but gently and taught me a lot of things....

    Thanks Kalster

    much respect x

So, KALSTER, the member least likely to fix what isn't broken.

Yes and so why don't you speak more plainly by stating the obvious instead of bending your words and sentences into twists and kinks that only you appear to appreciate.

All the names mentioned above are ones I probably would have suggested. Ophiolite, KALSTER and Harold all seem to have their head screwed on

I'll give my final vote to Harold!

I think I'd probably vote for Scifor Refugee, though I have not read any posts for almost a year, I seem to remember SFR was a decent chap.

I did this job as Megabrain for about a year and thoroughly enjoyed it, maybe some time in the future......

Well, except we would need to keep adding in new nominations. It also makes it hard to be sure people aren't using puppets, etc.

Not sure, Jerome sort of dropped off the face of the earth one day. It's a shame really, I thought he did a fine job. I know some will disagree. SkinWalker is the acting admin right now. I highly doubt he will have that privilege revoked even if we come to a decision here. He was absent for a long time so this thread was created.

Skinwalker is doing an excellent job. He should be given the official title. This thread could be resurrected later, in the event that Skinwalker wanders off again.

Yeah I agree, go with the experience, at least for now. Provided he stays, I don't think we need another one.

I'm very happy to hear both of you are in agreement about Skinwalker. I think we'll leave well enough alone for now. I think either of you would make an excellent admin, I don't however have any reason to replace someone who is doing a fine job. So for now we'll keep this thread around but perhaps lock it. That is of course if our two main candidates don't disagree on this decision.
