What's a good name for a "evil" cult? It needs to be something that hasn't been used already, and no Im not starting a cult, there's a cult in a movie Im going to make.

A short and simple name in a foreign language, but not too hard to pronounce.

Depends on how tritely "bad guy" it's supposed to be.

Real historic cult names have morphed into words, like assassin and thug. Assassin from Hashishin i.e. hashish user. These were holy killers who'd get blasted for better rampage and also indoctrination. Thug from Hindi Thuggee meaning thief or scoundrel. These highwaymen lured and mobbed random victims, not for money but for sacrifice to their God (often scores of them would travel days just to murder a few poor travelers).

There are different kinds of cults. A personality cult would probably be named for the leader e.g. Branch Davidians for the followers of David Koresh or Manson Family for followers of Charles Manson. A political cult could have some dogmatic moniker like PLPLFML (Popular Laotian People's Liberation Front Marxist Leninist) likely abbreviated in conversation to El-Pee-El.

More about your made-up cult please!

Do you want the cult to sound innocent, but be nasty?

The Conclave of the Serene Afterlife, usually just called the Serenists.

They make sure your afterlife is serene by killing you.

Initiation into the higher levels involves displaying no emotion as you 'release' another human being from the vale of sorrow.

You can pretty much come up with any name you want. The "evil" will be encapsulated within the doctrines you decide to make up.

Look at the name, "Islam" for example. Evidence enough.

In fact, the more you make the name sound NOT evil, the more creepy it will be upon the description of its doctrines.

    How about

    The COOKING club

an evil cult that eats in members,

BUT, then there'd be no members and no cult,

erm , maybe they cook the wider population instead.
