I am wondering why the documentaries about the universe, are allways talking about the same old things, like black holes, quantum theory, big bang, galaxies, starts, planets. Hey we know what they are now Allright.. Jeezus. And why dont they get more advanced with equations, and information about all those scientists all over the world working on it.. Like more advanced. Im kinda tired of it all. It isnt fun anymore watching this rambling repeating series.

    We need new approatches,,dont we?

Would you rather attend a lecture, or fireworks display?

Lectures are ok,,but a bit boring listening to dry talk.
Anyway,,my point is to have new things presented,,not that old stuff over and over.

Well, as one can probably guess; the TV is meant to be for teh masses,
and one who will go and make a super complex TV show will probably loose
a great deal of his potential viewers.

You can also note that the higher precantege of the people who watch those
TV shows are not super scientists and want to eplore a bit the subject, not the the fullest tho..

Besides, with every year that passes NGC and all those other science channels
release shows wihich are more graphically intesive and deliver the content
like a movie which is a really great thing, so one wouldn't mind watching the same
material passes over again(which he probabbly forgot by now anyways ) with
the addition of newer graphics and show intensity.

btw, for those who really want to learn something useful TV is certainly not the right
resource, the right one is this very computer which you read this messege through ^^

The Internet is very resourceful and you don't need to be very prudent to find
the material which you seek using teh net

    Cheers m8!

The internet has a great source for science. As a matter of fact, google video i use a lot to find videos, not in great resolution unfortunatly, but never the less they are interesting. And also good text to read on forums, peer review articles etc.
But still i feel that they could have produced more intellectually challenging stuff on the tv, cus there will be huge sums of people wanting to watch those shows/movies. And im sure those that see the regular repeating shows/movies will also be interested in it. Cus to get the general picture of science cant be that interesting for people, and certainly not me, and specially when it has been on the tv for last 20 years or so, even with new graphics etc.

I also consume stuff like intelligent design and other religious science, if i can call it that, not that im religious or anything, but because they have a way of presenting things that i find interesting. Let me put out a few titles i find good, even if im not aggreeing with them in most aspects.

Titles: Unlocking the mystery of life, The Privileged Planet, The miracle of the cell, Icons of evolution and so on.

Reason i consume these are really to se it from their point of view. And to find reason why or why not religious scientists can be somewhat right in some aspect of what they do. And maybe some ways of doing things we can learn from them. That can help us "Brights" (just another word for atheists) in so and so ways of thinking, or do rethoric.

    Errrr no..........

    Because I don't watch TV.

There are other things......in fact there are MANY other things to do, apart from watching TV!

You do have a choice, don't you know?

But i was talking specificly about tv, as in TELEvision..
Ofc i search in every other media i can. But most of the time it is just so poor quality, in both manuscript and resolution.
So remember,,its tv i talk about,,not other medias.

Yes every other poster has talked about TV as in Television

    So what's your problem?

Perhaps you need help in finding where the OFF switch is located?

Spamming? Do you know what spamming means????

I think you might mean trolling?

I am simply answering your sarcasm by pointing out your error and confusion and clarifying the discussion for others.

If you don't like answers back, then don't start threads?

And if you don't like sarcasm, then don't introduce it to the discussion either.

Now, have you located the OFF switch yet?

It's usually found on the bottom, right hand corner.

Because they don't agree with you?

What an attitude! And what a poll to put up anyway?

What sort of choices are those!????

Surely you are aware of the vista of resources out there APART from TELEvision?

TV is but a mere tiny tool in garnering information.

    Try picking up a book.

That tool should be an option to delete wrong posts/spam, and maybe also make certain people that missused tread to not be able to post in my own tread anymore. That can avoid any problems like this.
That way will be more powerfull, as admins and mods on any forum cant possibly be able as the amounth of posts and tread is ever expanding.

So to be able to mod your own tread is a great progress.

    Yes wouldn't that be great!

I fear it would get abused though.

A moderator is meant to be unbiased, neutral and not practice favoritism ( )

And those qualities are rare, very very rare indeed.

    I agree with Absum!
I haven't had a television for years so I no longer encounter your problem, Thermaltake. Get rid of the TV - simple!

And you're definition of 'crackpot' is anyone who holds a different opinion to your own?

And your solution is 'toss them out'

    Mmm......

From memory, The Universe show is on teh History channel, not the science channel so it's not for those that ate already into astronomy but rather those that are curious about it.

I gotta say, of all the crap shows on tv to pick on, The Universe would not be my 1st choice. The thing is, if you don't like it, turn it off. I haven't watched commercial tv ( i call it pleb tv) for months now. I also try and avoid watching the news because for the life of me i can't think of 1 good thing to be gained from watching it. Well, except that it gives me something to talk about with friends over coffee i guess
