These amazing pictures taken in Phoenix, Arizona, show vividly how Mother Nature "thumbs her nose" at the EPA. Even way back 40 years ago, living then in Las Vegas, we saw big water tank trucks liberally dumping water on the shoulders of roadways, in order that no airborne dust be generated when the road grader scraped his way over them.
We lived in Phoenix for 20 years, and witnessed first-hand many dust storms similar to those shown. We saw dozens of vehicles crashed into one-another, as fools continued driving blindly ahead into essentially zero-visibility conditions.
I've often wondered how comparatively ineffective, or perhaps rather futile, are the regulated efforts at preventing particulate pollution when compared to just one "haboob". If you've never seen one of these things in action, check the video out at bottom. jocular
