when i was still at school i did a project at on pesticedes....(we had to create a survey and i chose pesticides as the topic) i was horrified to discover that out of everyone who ansered the survey, which was approximately 80 people, only 3 did not use pesticedes in their work/home/garden!!!! what??

do u use pesticides? do u think they are neccessary?? dont u think they are more harmful than the actual pests?? are pests actually that bad to live with??

YOU DO NOT NEED TO USE PESTICIDES! There are natural "pesticides". Do you think aboriginal people didn't have pests? Of course they did. Only they used a farming technique known as polyculture. It is where many differnet veggies are grown together, not just a field of wheat, a field of corn, etc. This keeps the pests away because there are some pests that love corn but not wheat, so if there is wheat where this is corn they won't come. That is the whole point. Pesticides = death of ecosystem.

OK, so we let Zelos perfect livable conditions on Mars while we clean up this mess. By the time he is finished, we may have this mess sorted out. What about that?

Pesticides can cause difficulties and some harm to some of the environment. But it's ill-advised to go ballistic over them without an objective cost-benefit analysis. The ban on DDT in the early 70s is arguably responsible for near 100,000,000 deaths. (Not a typo -- 8 zeros....) It's carcinagic properties were greatly over stated, bordering on junk science at the best and fraud at the worst. It's deleterious effect on birdlife was kinda valid but largely exaggerated. How's that for a black hole of a cost-benefit trade-off?

I don't need pesticides.. my green thumb is developed enough I understand the relationships between various plants and their pests.

For example: Serious aphid problem? Buy a few hundred lady-bugs (about $5 here in Canada) and let them loose in your garden - they'll stick around as long as there's aphids to feed them.

I don't really support the use of pesticides.. but I havent' really spoken out, either. I simply choose not to poison my garden... it's healthy enough without all the chemicals.

What you need MB is a dog, a mans best friend.

We never used pesticides in the garden when i was a kid, but i know that most of my food has been grown with the help of pesticides. Organic is still very expensive.
