    Hi,

I am currently studying environmental health and one of the topics i have been given is Health Inequalities. I am trying to get my head round the topic and i need some help. What i do know is health inequalities is a very broad area and i have narrowed down the area to the basics. I am not asking anyone to do write an essay for me just general ideas and opinions on health inequalities, i have done my research but im still a little unsure.

    What are health inequalities?

What evidence is avialable that health inequalities exist?

You must be British, you certainly have the knack for understating things.

Would it be cheeky to say inequalities in health? This could be for any reason; disparities in health provision, access, health seeking behaviour, physiology...

Far more interesting. All the health disparity research i've come across is observational, usually a cohort study. This has pretty severe methodological issues. Usually a randomised controlled trial will be conducted to confirm observational findings but this is rarely plausible, or ethical, in health disparity research. Best evidence is usually found in systematic reviews, but these have methodological issues too.

Here's a couple of reviews from one of my areas of interest.

Reading them might give you an idea of the complexities, though they're both pretty flawed. What exactly do you want to know? It's hard to answer such broad questions. At what level are you studying?

Edit: just noticed i jumped the gun, and this relates to environmental health. I know far less about this, but have come across this article which might help.
