I came across an article of a doomsday theory regarding the BP oil spill:
    http://www.helium.com/items/1882339-...-killing-event

Of course, this article may not be entirely true, but it made me wonder how the BP's operations have affected the general population around the world.

For instance, what did the event cost us financially and environmentally?
How do these events directly relate to the everyday person?
How did this affect our future?

I don't think there's any agreement on what caused the Permian–Triassic extinction.

    The article seems far fetched.

We don't know the total cost of the spill for sometime. It wouldn't surprise me if it comes out to be significantly less than the highly politicized early estimates.

Yes, I agree entirely about the far-fetched nature of the article. Nevertheless, it caught my attention to this oil spill.

However, I'm curious about how this event will affect us now and the future in any way, including and not limited to environmentally and financially.

For example, it will most likely result in strict restrictions in the future, and it has brought to the attention of our limited supply in fossil fuels so it may change our future in the sense that we will start pursuing alternative methods for energy.
