I wrote and recorded Save The Planet. Help me get this song out. We will improve global management and promote world peace. Listen...

    SAVE THE PLANET
    http://jimcolyer.com/@tracks/20/lofi.mp3

    SAVE THE PLANET

We're floating on a grain of sand in the vastness of space
If future generations are going to inherit this place
We've got to Save The Planet
Do something while there's still time
    Save The Planet
This earth is yours and mine

The tropical rainforest is disappearing more everyday
We'll never replace it, we'd better not burn it away
    Save The Planet
The wonders of nature are free
    Save The Planet
Have you ever planted a tree?

    If the skies are blue
    And the oceans too
Isn't this a better home for me and you?
    If the air is clean
    And the land is green
Wouldn't you like to be part of this lovely scene?

I'm thinking of the animals that once roamed the African plain
Their numbers have dwindled, pretty soon none will remain
    Save The Planet
Do something while there's still time
    Save The Planet
This earth is yours and mine

    Save The Planet
The wonders of nature are free
    Save The Planet
Have you ever planted a tree?

    Save The Planet
    Save The Planet
    Save The Planet
    Save The Planet

Funny coincidence, my uncle is writing a song right now about global warming tentatively called "If This is Global Warming, Bring It On". Kind of a tongue in cheek thing about how nice mild winters are and summer fun when it's really hot. Maybe I can get the lyrics...

Gary..I would like to hear your uncle's song about global warming. I agree, we are having some pretty cold winters for the planet to be warming. Geologists say we are headed for an ice age. Environmentalists say earth is heating up. Hmmmm...

The planet is royally screwed, but that's the price, it can't be saved. Only choice is a forward escape- invent a time machine, go back and kill the first human.

If only time travel were possible, too bad it will never work. You could always kill off all the humans now and chances are the planet would repair itself.

Earth would have been SO much better off without us. No wonder all these hurricanes/earthquakes/tsunamis/floods have been happening all of a sudden. Earth's trying to kill us all! (who can blame it)

You could reason that the purpose of the Earth was to generate humans, so it has performed it's function.

Yeah you could.....if you were arrogant, conceited, narcissistic, egotistical, and self-centered.....of course you could. And let's not forget how animals are on the earth to be slaughtered while sitting in a tiny cage all their lives so we can have more beef. Or how trees are only here so we can write little memos to each other, you know, who cares that they give us oxygen to breathe. And the ozone, don't get my started on how it's only here for us to blast holes through it. Yes yes, they all need to perform their function. Good thing we're here...good thing.

I didn't know they keep cows in tiny cages, wow.

I realize it's an unconventional idea, but I didn't mean it in the way you seem to take it to mean. I'm not at all against environmentalism.

I mean that the human experiment is the result of evolution, which has generated the most complex ramification of matter yet discovered, the human cerebral cortex, which has gone on to create things that have never before happened on Earth. And all of it- language, agriculture, industrialization, computers- can all be seen as natural products of evolution. In a real way, with scientific detachment, and without arrogance, we can conclude that humans are somehow at the leading edge of something that started with the big bang, a process of complexification and generation of novelty. This process has left the relatively slow means of genetic evolution into something we call culture and civilization. I think rather than being a reason to exploit the Earth, it points to humans going through a birth process when a species first leaves their home planet and become citizens of the galaxy. What will save the world is technology, which couldn't have developed in an agricultural society (which really is destructive to the environment). So, a certain amount of chaos and destruction is part of this process.

When humans leave the Earth, then it can heal, if that is your only goal.

What a dumbass ego-trip to think the planet is in trouble.

If anything, we should be worried about saving our sorry asses from the planet. Can you say calderra?

Hmmpf, I do not like global warming, because it seems quite likely that it will diverge some warm currents in the oceans an I gonna freeze my ass while those under the ozone holes get nice tans...

Good riddance to bad animals. David Attenborough has already filmed all of the good ones, why do we need them now?

Just please don't make it any hotter here. It was 113-115F for about a month last year. This year I expect it to get even warmer. I think we've hit 93F so far. It's not even summer.

I recorded Save The Planet myself in Nashville. I am taking it to Hard Rock Cafe because HRC uses "Save The Planet" as its logo. We can improve global management and promote world peace.

Some say global warming is causing these bad hurricanes. Others say it is not so. What is causing them?

I did the vocal on Save The Planet myself because these singers in Nashville can not be relied on. I wrote the song. I believe in it the most. It is fitting that I should sing it, at least for now

Why hello there Wes. Why would you think that ? You are going against what most climatetologist have to say about global warming.

Hiya, Cosmic. Hope you weathered Wilma allright.

This is misunderstood by many people. Climatologists have to take into account that *something* is occurring, regardless of people's opinions, news stories to the contrary, or political spin. Frankly, they don't really care (well, most don't) about those sort of things, except insofar as is required to obtain continued funding and public awareness about these issues.

Example: people are debating as to whether or not the increased incidence of CAT-4's and 5's is due to Climate Change or natural reasons. But that's irrelevant. That there *are* changes are what is important.

Although, that being said, no matter what the underlying reason for it happening, I'm really looking forward to the Northeast here having the climate of Florida, right around when I retire...

Climate change is natural. Anyone who thinks that Earth was this perfect Garden of Eden until humans arrived and disturbed the "balance" doesn't understand what is going on in the world around them.

For instance when the Earth was first cooling after it's formation the atmosphere had hardly any oxygen in it. Then these stupid organisms called algea came along with big bad photosynthesis and started using CO2 to make O2. Oxygen was toxic to EVERY other lifeform on Earth at the time.

The climate is changing all the time whether it is caused by humans or not.

If you're refering to human caused climate change ie global warming then I will leave it at this: there are still many questions regarding this issue and personally I believe that global warming if it is happenning isn't caused by humans.

I suspect (as do many of my former teachers in the field) that it will ultimately turn out to be some combination of natural processes, Anthropogenic (human-originated) sources, and hitherto unknown synergies involving weather processes, climate, and Atmospheric Physics.

I think that the human component would be the result of land use and not air pollution.

Well, that is a factor, yes. Land used for agriculture doesn't have the same properties as a Forest or Grassland. Highways and Cities have very different heat absorption and reemission properties to be certain.

Mostly what I do hear within the Geography field is that yes, changes are taking place. It's to what degree we are responsible, and what their ultimate effect will be that are in question.
