I'm really no expert at all, but if you are asking what you should study to learn how to independently develop electronic devices that do not currently exist or better versions of electronic devices that do currently exist, the field of knowledge that I personally would begin with would be physics - specifically the areas of electricity and magnetism. This should give you a good foundation of what you want to learn and help you to decide where to go from there.

I am not sure where you live or what your education system is like, but here in the United States most highschool students have an option to take free college courses during their highschool years. If your aim is to work for a company that develops the electronics you are interested in, I strongly suggest you take advantage of this college option as it will both cost you nothing and possibly get you finished with your degree two years sooner.

As far as the job market in these fields goes, I have no idea.

The most important thing I have learned about the internet is that it needs lot more kindness and patience.

    Essentials of computer architecture [Book]

This is a book which will give you the foundations of learning how a computer/ chip works from there and then after reading and studying this book you will know enough about how chips work/ CPU's Data Structures, Algorithms are stored. Binary code, storing etc logging and everything under the sun. After you read this book then you can learn Jaba C++ and some other languages learn how to program and then then you can begin to actually make your own devices. Their is a lot more work that goes into making a device then it seems but once you read this book you will learn enough to basically construct your own chip given the right tools.
