Thread: Dangers about laser pointers.

My friend recently bought a green laser pointer with an output power between 250-300 mw. Ofcourse he enjoyed pointing at other peoples skin (usually on necks, behind the feet etc while others cant notice it until it stings). And recently i told other people at work about how "fun" this was.
However, they told me this can cause cancer very easily and i was told to see a doctor right away. Due to lack of information on this subject within my network, I'm asking here.

it's still visible light..just concentrated into a beam. It's not going to give you cancer just as a regular light blub won't ...and that has an output of 60-100 watts! The beam has so little power, you can't even feel the heat on your fingertips. I think your safe....just don't point it in your eyes.

And don't try to take one through security at Birmingham airport. :?

It's stupid to point the laser to human body. The laser can be very dangerous.It can light match, burn plastics.

Definitely not a toy at that power level. If he pointed that thing at me, I would knock his ass across the room.

Lasers are right there with fiber-optics: dont look into it with your good eye.
