    Hi, I'm new to the forum and this is my first post (my first post on any forum, for that matter). I just had a question. How much electricity would need to be consumed to power a piston air compressor that is compressing 1 gallon of gas and pushing it through a quarter inch hole? Thanks in advance.

    At what PSI is your gallon of gas? What sort of gas is it? what PSI do you want it to exit? How fast do you want it to exit?

    Need more info, best guess it sounds like you are trying to home rig up an air compressor to pump up your tires.

    edit: what is the dimensions of your piston? what is the HP of the motor you are using? what voltage of electrical current?

    Welcome to the forum!

    At the very least, you would need to know the time period required to do this.

    Pressure and velocity limitations or requirements, motor efficiency, mechanical layout, and of course the gas used also should be factored in.

    Please describe the problem in more detail.

    but if you dont want to will save the trouble. They basically make a giant concrete dome using air pressure. It takes them about an hour but low power required because they are only pumping at very low PSI, I think they say "no more than what is used to smoke a cigarette" or something to that effect so would guess around 3-5psi.

    normal electric air compressors that you buy from the store just plug into the wall. so not much.

    Between a few milliwatts and many megawatts. You have to define what flow rate you expect, what pressure differential you want and what the gas is.
