YOu might be a bit more specific, like what do you wish to know about them?

They have more - precise ranges and professional ones can be remotely controlled and read by computers.

I have a Fluke 87, and I love it. They can be a little pricey..I think I gave around $300 US for mine. I guess it depends on what your measuring and how accurate of a reading you need.
    Fixin' shit that ain't broke.

The old (mechanical analogue) jobs used to measure Voltage Current and resistance (to be precise they actually 'indicated' not measured it!).

Most people who used these found you could also test the strength of the needle, by leaving it in the 50uA range and trying to measure 600VDC

Newer digital meters (DVMs) can also have , inductance, capacitance and frequency ranges as well as diode and transistor test functions. I even have one with a temperatire range, also some modern meters can be connected to a PC which can (sometimes) switch ranges remotely and 'log' data periodically.
