i know, its been forever since i have done anything electronics related..
    but i have always wondered..

using a CD cell (like they have to turn on lights at dusk) or a related product, be the sensor to pick up either LED or laser transmissions regulated by the output of the stereo..

but then i realized that the light in the room would affect quality, and pry a system like that would work but be impracticle..

    but wait..

    doesn't a laser produce energy?
is there a way to utilize that energy to power AND send a signal to a wireless speaker?

Send a signal..yes...power a speaker?...a lot more difficult. If the laser had enough power to drive the speaker...it would also burn you if you crossed it path...or instantly blind you if it hit your eyes.

    Fixin' shit that ain't broke.

Another problem with using light to send the signal...unless you placed the emitter and reciever up high by the ceiling, anytime anyone walked through the room, the speakers would cut out.

yea, putting it high is a given..wonder if solar cells are sensitive(fast?) enough (can they be made to?) to do the trick?

You would use a photocell like one of these:

I spent a couple hours in chat talking to a guy in India about a remote control for his fan. It would alot of the same principles.

If the photocells wouldn't switch fast enough to reproduce a 20khz wave...you could also use a phototransister:

I bet you could find one that switches fast enough for audio signals
