# Thread: Propose a Method of Contraction (electronics)

1. Hello everybody,
I am a new member here, looking for some help. Well probably everybody is here because of something .
So and here I am with my "Propose and justify " problem. (by the way I am a student, studying BTEC level 2 diploma in Engineering)

I got this circuit, and I have to Propose and justify a construction method. Honestly I have no clue. Maybe somebody with big heart , could explain it for me.

3. The circuit itself doesn't make much sense to me because it looks like the two LEDs are just shorting the battery to ground, which will burn them out immediately. But maybe the circuit is not supposed to actually work, and they are just asking you how you would build it. Then you would describe what kind of board you would mount the components on, what kind of wire to use, how to solder the joints, and things like that. I'm just guessing.

below the circuit I have some comments:

Requirements

The circuit above is to be built in a modest production run of 50,000 units. Each of the units will fit in a container of 50x25x75mm and have an external power supply; the microphone unit will be connected by a 3.5mm tip and sleeve jack to the phone plug shown.

Operation

The phone jack is connected to a microphone to detect the sound in an engineering workshop, when the level of noise is high current from the microphone pass through the diode to charge the capacitor C1, some of that current will bias the transistor Q1 on. The capacitor C1 stores sufficient current to keep Q1 switched on for at least 300ms.

While the sound level is acceptable the green LED (LED2) will remain elluminated, as the sound level increases LED2 will extinguish and LED1 (red) will illuminate.

Propose and justify a construction method.

And that is all. As I said I don't know where to start.

5. Okay, I still think the design is screwed up, but that's beside the point. I don't know much about production methods. If you were only making a few of them, then you would probably build them by hand. The more you are making, then the more sense it would make to automate the production, perhaps using an assembly line, robots, specially manufactured tools, and so forth. Sorry I can't be more help.

6. So you think I need to explain how would I built it and more. Okay.
Thank you for your help, now I know how to start my work.

If anyone else has more suggestions how to built it or additional information, I am here to learn.
