hey, i dont post here often, in this section. im not an electronics man.

but i was wondering if you could perhaps tell me what exactly is a polarised plug,

see in ireland, we have a three pinned plug. neutral, live and the other one. so i got an import, an drewired it to suit my socket. it had two prongs (pins) and well, it says its polarised for safty. its for a guitar amp, and o was wondering if that will affect how i rewired it.

i dont think it dose, and but i thougth i'd ask.

(plug = you may have a different word, the thing that goes into the socket)

I don't see how a two pronged plug is any safer than a plug with a ground (3 pronged).
I have no idea what your plugs look like in Ireland, but in the US, two-pronged plugs are used only for objects that require no ground. There is something called a "grounded plug adapter" that converts three pronged power cords to two pronged electrical sockets. You use a screw to ground it.

I suppose the added saftey feature of polarized over non is the fact that it only fits in the socket one way, ergo, polarity cannot be reversed.

i do belive you knocked it on the head, and we have the same earthed 3 prong's here!

as i gather (now with further research) its so it will not work if its turned upside down (becasue there is only two)

and with the reversed position, live would feed to neutral, bypassin the fuse.

    but i fixed it. :P
