thought I would post this here as I might get a better response.

Will a generator that is made to generate 60 Hz be able to generate higher/lower frequencies efficiently?

Is there any chance of damage to the generator if higher/lower frequencies are generated?

You can change the frequency slightly by increasing or decreasing the driven speed. You can add capacitors or inductance to change the resonance as needed for greater changes. I'm sure you could find some designs that operate well, far away from 60 hz, but not just any. By design, some motors work from almost zero hz. to well past 400 hz. No reason the same cannot be done with an alternator.
