This idea comes from an episode of Star Trek, in which a beam of particles called
a barium sweep was employed to rid the Enterprise of contaminants by exposing all the surfaces of the ship to it. Now, I wish I knew how to build it or even if it is feasible or could be made a reality , but I thought that something like that would be useful in wiping out infections in hospitals. I look forward to any thoughts you may have on it.

Years ago a company called Radiation Dynamics here on the Island, had huge metal tubes, room sized tubes. That they would wheel metal hospital equipment into. The room would be vacuumed out, and an electron beam would sterilize and even disintegrate blood on the operating equipment.

I knew the fellows there on a first name basis. I went there many times.

They showed and explained their titanium lens beam emitters. And their large laser tubes to me.

    They were bought up recently.

I believe they also supplied the electron beam welding equipment to Grumman Aero Space.

    Sincerely,

    William McCormick

Some hospitals employ an air sanitizer that circulates the air through a chamber that is irradiated with UV.

I should have provided a link. But they changed the site so much. I was not sure there was anything left about what they did anymore. But after closer examination, they still make the equipment to make the pex tubing. They used to call it sisoning. I believe.

I used to love going there. They always had some kind of crazy new invention or some crazy new device or new problem to solve.

That is the old link, but it redirects to the new link.

Some ventilation equipment uses UV to kill germs. They even have it for the home.

You would have loved Grumman Aero Space.

Device for wiping out bugs in hospitals.

    A nuclear bomb?
The hand of time rested on the half-hour mark, and all along that old front line of the English there came a whistling and a crying. The men of the first wave climbed up the parapets, in tumult, darkness, and the presence of death, and having done with all pleasant things, advanced across No Man's Land to begin the Battle of the Somme. - Poet John Masefield.

In the uk we have things the other way round, we have bugs that can wipe out anybody, and since our hospitals are mostly used for illegal immigrants these days (tax payers are assumed to be able to afford private treatment) nobody really complains too much.
