There is some mention that this is just artistic concept.

The link doesn't work, but I can guarantee you, it's not the first.

    The Taylor Aerocar

I was looking for the one I saw in Popular Mechanics, or maybe Popular Science in the 70's. Found the above older one.

I really hope the day never comes where people can go to their local dealership and buy a flyinig car!!! Just imagine what that would do to your homeowner's insurance (bad drivers that can't stay on the road is one thing, but flying??...).

Regaring the technology however, I belive the Audi (concept) pictured relies on ground effect to get lift so it would be a good off-road car but wouldn't get elevation beyond a few inches (nor very good milage).

I find it funny that you say you dont want a civic cause everyone has one, instead you want the second most popular car - the mustang. I dont know how original you'll be. At the gas station youll be original cause youll be the only one in a small car that gets like 12mpg.

I feel that by the time we could purchase flying cars, they will be fully automated. You would enter your destination, the computer would speak with the traffic network, and you would take off when there is an opening for you in the sky. There are similar prototype systems for normal cars now where all the cars are automated. For the source, I believe I original saw it on a special on the science channel.
