I wrote an Excel Macros that would solve any Sudoku puzzle. Lost interest in the game after that. The game just became too easy. I wonder where the program is now?

A program to solve Sudoku, why?

    :EDIT:

Was responding to the original post. Also why is this even in 'Education'? The idea that Sudoku is educational would only apply if you have trouble counting to ten.

    Not spam?

So when I copied the first line of the OP into a search engine it didn't come up with 5 exact matches, one of which was an e-book.

    Must have dreamt it.

But I've deleted the download information anyway.

Wasn't it more about solving multiple simultaneous equations all adding to 9. I forget now.

I have a question: How does the problem setter know that a SODUKO grid is solvable? In other words; what is the minimum amount of numbers required to make a grid solvable? OB

If you're interested in what they add to, the number you're looking for is 45.

Number combinations are more important for the offshoots of sudoku - kakuro and "killer sudoku" where you have to (also) get certain groups of numbers to add up to numbers less than 45.

Thanks for reminding me. I looked it in Wikipedia, but it didn't seem clear. (Was it all the lines would have the digits 1 - 9 so adding to 45. and each local group of 9 cells would also add to 45.)
It wasn't designed to super killer sudoku, but could be made to do the logic for that too. But there are plenty of sudoku solvers available.

I know this is a slightly dated thread and probably construed by many as a shameless plug, but I agree with what others have been talking about with the fact that sudoku can be pretty cookie-cutter. I have a app that I'm pretty psyched about. It is Sudoku Adventure on the iTunes app store (not the Android one. that's a different game). Everything that make sudoku repeatable and systematic is all gone with this app. It's still sudoku, but way different and pretty challenging. It's coming out 2/20/14.

Again, it's a plug, but I wanted to throw it out there because I thought it was relevant to the discussion.

There's a video on YouTube to check it out.
