undergraduate GPA that hovered around 2.5? I can't believe this is a true story because I know that a 3.0 is the bare minimum GPA required to get admitted into any graduate program.

There's a lot more than GPA as qualifiers. Interviews, personal and compelling non whiny letters about any special challenges that might explain the poor grades, GRE scores and practical experience. might get someone in the door.

This also doesn't seem related to biology. Moved.

    Hey Brooklyngirl,

Everything Lynx said is spot on. It also depends on what college it is, how impacted the program is and how much funding it receives, as well as what, if any research you have done as an undergrad.

Everyone grad-student I know has GPA scores around a 4.0, so a 2.5 GPA is to the best of my knowledge very rare for an incoming grad-student.

    Cheers!

Bradley Voytek did his undergraduate work at the University of Southern California and then did his PhD in neuroscience at Berkeley. He was the co-founder of the website brainSCANr, an advisor for the Zombie Research Society in Los Angeles, and a data analyst for Uber. I'm not sure whether he is a real person or someone made him up. I don't think it's possible to get into Berkeley graduate school with a 2.5 GPA.*
