Thread: Semester System

I'm a bit unclear about the kinds of semester systems. I'm also undecided of which system to take on.

How many courses does a person normally take for these 3 systems: semester, trisemester & quarter system.
and how long does each semester normally last?

Personally i think every semester has its own advantages & disadvantages but the trisemester & quarter system (i take it that both has equal amount of weeks) is slightly better as you took less courses (because it has lesser no. of weeks) compared to semester systems. Hence when the final comes you only need to study all of the chapters of, say for eg, 3 courses (trisem & quarter) compared to for eg, 5-6 courses in semester system.

is anyone thinking the same thing as me about the finals thingy i've mentioned?

I have always believed that if you focus your attention on passing exams rather than gaining knowledge and skills then you have quite missed the point of going to a university.

A for the thread's question, I prefer the semester system only because it's common and thus more exportable to other colleges and universities.

does one particular course has different credit hours under different semesters?
for eg. calculus 1 is 4 credit hours in semester system but 12 credit hour in quarter system, is there such thing?
