I know it sounds like a crack-pot theory but I'd like to have views about it

My question is do people that are proponents have any theory for what is causing the alledged expansion?

Whats the simplest way of debunking that theory?

Well sounds like a load of rubbish to me how could the earth grow? It would need mass to be created out of nowhere. Also supposing this theory was correct it shows no reason why mountains or sea trenchs would be created. Why is the hieght of everest growing every year if not becauses these two plates are colliding?

This guy needs to at least attempt to learn the theories he is opposing. Listen to him attempt to describe how he thinks continental collision is said to work http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfgkm0eBGsc&NR=1

I'd love to see his refutation of subduction, and preferably in text form rather than a patronisingly voice-overed video.
I also wonder why in his shrinking globe animations, he stretches everything so that even the shallow continental shelf seas such as the North Sea close, as being that these are on continental crust and not oceanic, they should be present in his pre break-up earth.

not another youtube conspiracy-monger ! (see Does the HI virus actually exist???)

+ a recent thread expounding a theory on an expanding earth was recently given the thumbs down

    Hmmmm

I was under the impression that the Earth does game mass every year, via the tiny cosmic dust particles landing on it.
The hand of time rested on the half-hour mark, and all along that old front line of the English there came a whistling and a crying. The men of the first wave climbed up the parapets, in tumult, darkness, and the presence of death, and having done with all pleasant things, advanced across No Man's Land to begin the Battle of the Somme. - Poet John Masefield.

Gains a little mass, yeah, but expanding with no subduction, no!

do you care to guess how much that amounts to in percentage of the earth's mass ?

    What a load of crap.

Where did all the water come from?!?

Of course there can't be any fossils under the sea crusts, IT MELTS AND THEN RE-SOLIDIFIES

granted there can be some expansion due to energy from the sun being converted to mass via photosynthesis but this would be minute.

This can all be proven or disproven easily. 3000 years ago the first greek mathmatitions were finding the size and the mass of the Earth. If this were compared to modern day measurements there would be a difinative answer

As it is said that the earth expanded because of cooling why didn't the land masses expand why only the water masses. I don't understand the phenomenon.
