For sceptic. Hope you made it through the night. Can you give a few details of the Quake? westwind.

    I can't find any magnitude 7.0 quake. There is a 6.2 detailed here: M6.2 - 57km SSW of Opunake, New Zealand 2012-07-03 10:36:16 UTC

From a qucik scan of news pages no injuries or deaths have been reported.

It may be a smaller magnitute Quake to you John Galt but what about poor old sceptic? No word from him. Lets hope all is well. He had wine storage racks I think, could be wrong there. I received intelligence concerning details of the Quake around 0300HRSAEST, probably the Quake woke me up here in Victoria Australia, but the ABC man said 7.0. Still, on reflection, I should have verified that, they can't be trusted at that time in the morning. Maybe they said unconfirmed report and I missed that. Still, all depends on sceptic, our man at the centre. westwind.

The newspapers originally reported it a 7. They also said there were no reports of damage apart from a few chimneys even though people felt it quite a long way away.
Apparently the USGS uses a different scale for reporting intensity.

Papers said that it was a long one and felt through all of NZ because of good ground transference.
