Latest information off my midnight radio , ( breaking news ), is that a Scientific Project is now underway to determine the exact influence of this particular current over a peroid of time. The Research boat is in the water, the appropriate people are on board, and the latest technology will be in action to provide useable knowledge to help make more efficient use of this resource. This is the limit Of what I currently know of this Project, I'm very tired due to lack of sleep and a heavy head and have sluggish comprehension at this time, but I thought it was my responsibility to get this information out there. When vital sighns return I'll try and be more helpful with further information. westwind.

For MeteorWayne. Nothing with an exotic name Wayne, just East Australian Current. The waters are complex, due to our Great Barrier Reef, runnng almost the length of Queensland's Seaboard.Warm currents flow from the North, ( tropical ), bring warm water Southerly down the coastlineTo South of Sydney. These warm currents have considerable influence on Climate, Settlement, and Human Activity. ( It says this in my school atlas ). We have a 200 Nautical exclusion Zone off our East Coast, please do not fish here kind of thing. How far or how important is the cooler water from the Southern Ocean as It tries to flow North along the Coast, Sorry I can't accurately answer that one. We'll have to wait and see. westwind.

I only asked since, living on almost exactly the other side of the planet (the actual antipode is about 750 miles SW of Bunbury), I asdmit I'm not as familiar with the geography and environment of Australia as I could be. I mostly learn things about you and the Kiwis when questions come up, although I am aware that one of the sites dedicated to finding Near Earth Asteroids is there (Siding Springs, as part of the Catalina project). It's in New South Wales.

    To Westwind

You may be interested to know that the East Australia Current actually flows about 25 kms off my outside deck. I look out to the Poor Knights Islands, off New Zealand's northern province, and the current is still flowing out there, having a strong ecological effect.

It passes subtropical Lord Howe island, and crosses the Tasman Sea, flowing around the top of New Zealand, and then flows south to pass my back yard. From Lord Howe, it brings fish larvae of subtropical types to live in our warm temperate seas. Some of those fish die in our winter, which is definitely colder than Lord Howe, but some survive and even breed very nicely.
