Makes you wonder, doesn't it really? The US has recently seen some of the worst tornadoes on record, some Mississipi flood gates had to be opened due to incredibly high discharge levels, 2010 was one of the hottest years on current record, Australia saw extreme amounts of flooding in late 2010-early 2011 etc... I don't see how people can still deny that humanity is definitely having an effect upon Earth's climatological cycle.
Anyway, sorry, I don't want to start up any more climate debates...
It's actually part of a multidecadal cycle of acti8vity in the Atlantic Basin.
Here's the Colorado State University Tropical Meteorology Project forecast. It's a long, but very detailed read. Near the end is a discussion of why the recent active seasons (since 1995) are NOT linked to global warming. Good stuff for weather nerds/geeks like me.
