Hi, I'm working on my homework for earth science and don't have the text book. I'm trying to figure it out on my own. I'm stuck on couple of questions. please help, thanks.

1.) A theory which unites many related subdusciplines or theories, i.e plate tectonics? 8 letter word, "R" is the 7th letter

2.) "catch- all" word for the universe (particularly on earth). Is nature correct?

3.) great scientific theories are praised for thier ability to ----- different disciplines? 5 letter word, first letter is "U" and third letter is "I". I put "UNITE" is that correct?

4.) generalization about the behavior of nature (no known deviation after numerous experiments). It's a 3 letter word and starts with letter "L". Is "LAB" correct?

5.) a non geologist's expression for a rock? 5 letter word, first letter is "S". I put "STONE"?

In question one do you really mean i.e. (i.e did you mean id est, that is, or did you mean e.g. exempli gratia, for example?) I'm not sure of the answer either way, but it would be helpful to know which to focus on.

Unite and Stone look correct. LAB is definitley wrong, but i can't think of a good alternative. Nature seems correct, but the the combination of the Earth with the universe is ambiguous.

I think 4 is a badly worded and in fact looking for LAW.

The first one is a bit tougher... It needs to be a word like "framework" or something like "model" or even "paradigm." I'm leaning toward "standard," but don't think that's what it is.

Hmmm... So "plate tectonics" is a "landmark" which includes many sub-disciplines and theories? I really don't like that question. :?
