Thread: Sinkholes to lower sea level

Well u see...If we could man made some sinkholes in the sea water would rush in and fill up the hole resulting in shrinking of sea levels

Where do you expect the water to go?

So you are going to dig up a volume of rock equal to the volume of sea water you intend to 'disappear'. Do you really think that can work?

It is not actually a totally silly idea. We do it already. However, it is not so much the water going into a hole that is valuable. it is the dirt we dig out of the hole, which can create more land.

Pretty much every port city on the planet has a harbour that has been dredged, with dredgings used to reclaim land. This, on a very small scale, is what the OP is about.
