    I think Italy is located on the Eurasian plate but others I have spoken with believe it is on the African plate. I have also read somewhere that it is on its own 'microplate' and has rotated in the past.

    this link seems to indicate a rigid microplate in the deformation zone between the eurasian and the african plate

    don't know how definitive its findings are

    That area (like other collision zones) is and has been a jumbled mess of faults, boundaries and subducted bits of plates. Historically however Italy belongs to Europe, except parts of Sicily which are part of the Pelagian Spur of Africa.
