Depending on your diet, I'd hazard a guess that are less dehydrated and are holding on to your vitamins. I think you might be sleeping better as well, I mean a more normal sleep wave. Also, did your life change in any other way, apart from the drinking (love, exercise, eating habits, work stress, etc)?

Yes in the long term alcohol is a depressant, when you drink it causes a release of dopamine and serotonin levels which then become depleted/exhausted leaving you depressed after the initial high, no alcohol leaves more balanced levels which can raise your mood. I gave alcohol up last summer and after a few weeks felt GREAT am about to do he same again.
However are you sure you dont just feel good because you're not hungover!? What KALSTER says is also ture, you have much less REM sleep when you have been drinking.

Congradulations on deciding to give up, I hope you continue to feel well.

I think alcohol is similar to a sugar rush

e.g full of energy and then bang suddenly not!

I don't drink if i am feeling low or upset. i find if i do as soon as i take a few slips i can feel that sinking melancholy coming on.

Also it can bring on a low mood the next day leaving you in the doldrums.

And ironically people drink alcohol to feel better!

I guess it depends on individual chemistry and reactions.

Much better to get the bong out me thinks Smile (you don't get a hangover the next day)
