    Hi,

My name is Jason I was wondering if anyone who works in forensic science could help me.

I want to work as a forensic scientist but not sure which is the best route to take I have been accepted at University for either Forensic Science BSc(Hons) or Biology BSc(Hons) but after talking to someone who works in this career she told me you do not need a degree because they can train you on the job, this left me questioning which would be best and fastest route for me to achieve my goal.

If I can get into this career without the debt of going to University would be best option, but would my chances be?

    Thank you for your time,

    Jason

    Hi Jason,

Although it might seem counterintuitive, I'd suggest taking biology.

Visit the Forensic Outreach website and search for the post "5 reasons why you shouldn't do a forensic science BSc" for more information

Good luck -- and let me know if you have any more questions!

Are you looking for a lab job or field work? Just asking because it might make a difference on some of your course work. If you get a job without the degree you will most likely be a lab tech or analyst for most of your career. If you can find accredited online courses, that might help keep the cost down. But I can't see how you can avoid actual class time for courses requiring lab work.

Find several forensic people doing what you want to do, and interview them.
