Amanda Knox's prosecutor, Giuliano Mignini, has sued persons in the press for defamation who have suggested that he is mentally imbalanced.

An Italian prosecutor is going after the West Seattle Herald for a story printed on page 4 of the newspaper, according to a report by The Sun, a British tabloid.

The report states prosecutor Giuliano Mignini has filed a defamation claim against the Herald for its coverage of a fundraiser hosted by Friends of Amanda, a group "devoted to the truth about Amanda and the charges against her."

The Herald reported Knox's supporters believe Mignini is "inadequate" and "mentally unstable."

In Italy defamation is a criminal offence. In Italy it is considered criminal to cause what is known in the country as a "loss of face". But have Amanda Knox and her boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, not been defamed enough times by their prosecutors and their unfounded claims?

The following is what was said by a lawyer, Carlo Pacelli, in court during their 2011 appeal concerning Amanda Knox:

"She was a diabolical, satantic, demonic she-devil. She was muddy on the outside and dirty on the inside. She has two souls, the clean one you see before you and the other."

And yet both Knox and her boyfriend have had defamation suits launched against them by the Italian authorities.

Apparently, Italy is going forward to re-try her for the murder.

Okay, so how does that stop her pressing charges for defamation?

I posted as a comment, not a rebuttal nor much of a response to your O.P. I was not up to date and was surprised by the news.

I can see where you're coming from now.

Apparently, according to commentators, Knox may seek to block extradition and who's to blame her given the treatment she's received so far.

But can she technically still log a complaint of defamation which occurred while she was resident in Italy?

And why had she not done so already considering how strict these laws are in Italy?

Well to be honest I don't care and it's not my job to care. What it is, is for the Italien judiciary to care. They've made a complete mess of this, if she is innocent then she shouldn't have been convicted and sent to prison in the first place, as a result she has probarbly had her whole life ruined by this, and if she was guilty the she shouldn't have been let out as this is a complete outrage to parents of Meredith Kercher who was brutally murdered and has been completely let down by the Italiens.

We should expect that when a court finds someone guilty then they are guilty, this is the only real way we have to judge, also quite rightly that if a conviction is quashed and a miscarriage of justice has taken place then that person is innocent and that is that. But for the for someone to be convicted, have their conviction quashed and then retried is just a complete farce and totally unfair to everybody involved. How is anybody to know the truth is such a case, the whole thing is a disgrace.
